Sharad slams faculty hire order
New Delhi, July 22: JD(U) president Sharad Yadav today slammed a Supreme Court judgment to end reservation in appointment of faculty in premier medical institutions and said the issue would rock Parliament during the upcoming monsoon session.
He demanded the government should bring in an ordinance against the Supreme Court judgment and threatened to paralyse Parliament by engaging MPs from across the political spectrum.
The government should immediately bring in an ordinance against this judgment in the coming Parliament session. I am writing to all MPs, MLAs and political parties to rise against this judgment. I also urge SC/ST/OBC brothers and sisters to come on the street against this anti-reservation judgment, he said.
Yadav was so obsessed with the judgment that he refused to answer any question relating to the political war of words between the JD(U) and the BJP over the midday meal tragedy. I will answer all political questions tomorrow. Today, I want to remain focussed on this anti-reservation judgment, he said.
A five-judge constitution bench headed by then Chief Justice Altamas Kabir last Thursday pronounced a verdict on a plea of the faculty of association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) that there cannot be reservation for faculty posts to speciality and superspeciality faculty courses in AIIMS.
I welcome the new Chief Justice P. Sathasivams statement that reservation in judiciary would have a positive impact, Yadav said.
Asked if he was not scared of inviting contempt of court through his allegations, Yadav appeared to be defiant. Why should I be scared? I am only holding up the mirror to the court, he said.
